City Square in the heart of Waterford (of Waterford Crystal), on the south coast of Ireland founded on an old Viking settlement was the first step of many in the redevelopment of a run-down provincial town. Stop and go development process, marred by property crisis and at least one political scare eventually produced a surprisingly modern structure with an underground car park, shopping centre and offices on upper floors. The successful development has provided impetus for an overhaul of entire old town and its quays and ambitious city development plan.
